Psalm 40:4a

Have you ever found yourself emotionally depleted or just simply sorrowful or unhappy and tried to change your own attitude? I have found some days where I wake up in the morning and just feel awful for no apparent reason. Not that I am sick physically or even have any kind of reason, but I just feel “down in the dumps” some days. And to try and change my own attitude in those times can be very difficult. . . .

Well, the blessings that Psalm 40 is speaking about above, is like the opposite of what I have just explained. When you truly give God your heart, you experience this inside joy and peace and heightened sense of purpose that goes far beyond our circumstances. It is a powerful, personal and victorious emotional state that just becomes your new normal. Now, I am sure not saying that true Christ-followers don’t have “down in the dumps” kind of days. But they don’t have a grip on you like they did before and they seem to dissipate quickly as the light of the gospel chases them away. . . it is almost like a force field or a “hand of protection” that follows you. Trials of this world still come to believers; and actually, I think even more so than non-believers. But it is even during those trials that you realize that they don’t sting or take root like they did in your BC (Before Christ) days.

To me, this is the TRUE prosperity gospel. It is not about worldly goods at all. God does sometimes bless his people with worldly things. But his people really value those things less because we know that lasting blessings are spiritual and soulish blessings! When we, as believers, walk outside and see the hand of God in nature, in creation, in other people and generally all-over. . . THAT is real blessing! When we recognize Holy Spirits voice in us and take action – speak an encouraging word to someone, pray for someone, or exchange our plans for his plans and he uses us to love on someone else – THAT is real blessing! . . . and when we introduce someone that does not know Jesus to the life-giving light and love of our good, good father. . . . THAT – now THAT is incomprehensible all-around heaven rejoicing BLESSINGS, amen?

What good is it that you might gain the whole world, yet lose your soul? (paraphrased from Matthew 16:26, Mark 8:36 and Luke 9:25)

My friends, do you want true prosperity that fills your soul overflowing in unmerited favor? Then push all of your chips to the center of the table. Surrender your entire lives to our good, good father. Because His ways are ALWAYS better than your ways anyway. Let’s stop protecting our lives and withholding complete control! Give God your unabated full on trust – your very lives. . . It is only then, that you will experience unspeakable JOY and incredible abundant life!
